Alright, so I was playing Quake 4 at high texture quality at 1024x768 at about 30fps and decided to see what the game would look and play like with AA at x2 But when I changed it and restarted it my texture quality went VERY VERY BAD. It looks like bump mapping is off but when I go to my quake 4 system's advanced options it is enabled. But even if it was just the bump mapping it shouldnt look that bad. I mean it looks bad. It plays fine but graphically depressing. The really wierd thing is that I reinstalled the game and I still had the problem. Doom 3 runs and looks great so this is exclusively a quake 4 problem. Any suggestions?
Do you have the latest patch for Quake 4? Have you tried running a higher quality texture? The low-quality textures do look like ass, but I found bumping them up to medium did a helluva lot more than upping the AA. (btw, this patch will make previous saves incompatible with the game when applied----not that the game takes that long to play, but...)
I have tried all texture qualitys and i agree high quality with no aa looks WAY better then low with even the highest aa. I just wanted to see how it preformed and now this is my problem. I have the 1.04 patch. But why did it work before but not now?
Its like quake 4 is stuck on low texture quality. Does that give anyone any ideas on how to "unlock" this low texture quality death grip?? Is it possible that Quake 4 is reading my video card as only having 64mb's of memory and if so how could I change it to 256mb?
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I have confirmed that quake is reading my video card as having 64mb's of memory. Someone plz help me find a way to make quake read all 256mb's of my video cards memory.PLZ
You can't if there's not more than 64MB of onboard RAM. GeForce 6200's in PCIe format come with a feature called TurboCache, which can access 128, 256, or 512MB of system memory in addition to it's own onboard RAM, which can vary anywhere from 16MB to 256MB. I don't know where, but you should be able to adjust how much system RAM the card uses in the nVidia driver control panel. Update your drivers, and patch Quake with the 1.2 patch.
Ok here is the deal. I typed in a command called setmachinespec which detects my system and displays it on the console. It reads my video card as having 64mb's of memory. But doom 3 can play at high quality beautifully. I am going to dl the latest patch but it's gonna take a LONG time with dial up.But FINALLY I ordered cable today take that back im not dling the patch until i get cable. I dont have 10 hours to wait.
lol.........If you have a USB storage then go to Internet Cafe and download it. (if you realy need it otherwise wait for the Cable~!)
Well I downloaded quake 4's latest patch and it STILL didnt work. Is it possible my vid card is kicking the bucket. That wouldnt be cool b/c I got if for christmas and its a BFG card so this is very unexpected. I realize my card isnt the greatest but I hope its alot more reliable then this. And about the turbo cache and wut not. My card is AGP so I dont have the TC.
