I have been having Problems Downloading things, I have a 56K modem but it only downloads at 1.5 - 2 kb/s and my other friends have 56k's but they get about 7 kb/s so i was wondering if there was anything i could do to help it download faster.
at 56k you usually only achive an average of 5kb/s, sounds like your friend is very lucky, try updating the driver for your modem, and try this just a word of warning, use cablnut to backup you current config first then import the 56k settings
Yeah, the quality of service (or download speed) really depends on ISP, your location and the condition of your local telephone line(s). Don't expect too much from a dialup connection
I had the same problem,So I ran a new phone line and got a download manager. I also install a Web accelerator and my downloads went from 2 kb/s to 8 to 10 kb/s...
just had a thought, phone your telephone provider (e.g. BT) and ask them to turn up the gain on your line, i don't know what it stand for but it usually works, and ask them at BT (or whoever) if they can suggest anything to speed up your connection EDIT: this is ok, well its freeware anyway so you don't ever have to pay for it
I use Leechget as my download manager and it works great.. There are others as well,You will just have to do some testing to see which one suits you.
Ok, well i found a good Download Manager that gets me about 4 or 5 so it is better but i think that if i get a web accelerator then i could get even better, but i can find any good ones, so if someone could give me the link to a good one then that would be great, thanks
I have tried almost all the web accelerators that i could get my hands on, and the only one That really makes a difference is ispbooster... BUT IT COST $2.99/Month... BUT it is worth it for us Poor dialup users.... Check out ispbooster.com...
