I just got my new ATi 9700 in the mail.. The first step I am presented with is to install the latest AGP drivers for my motherboard chipset. I have determined it is an Intel 845 (82845). The only problem is, when I go to this page, there isn't a link provided under the "Graphics Driver" column for the 845 family. Is there somewhere else I can obtain these drivers (I'd assume Intel had them ) or am I just sol? It tells me Whew :swt:. Anyway, help? ~peachsnowfalling~.
What you're looking for isn't actually a graphics driver; you're looking for a Northbridge driver. The northbridge is considered a motherboard driver, so you'll be looking for something like "AGP driver". P.S. - If you want some really nice video drivers, try OmegaDrive. He takes the newest ATI drivers (often before they're officially released) and tweaks them to be best for games.
Just to make things clear, the omega drivers are not the agp driver,. Those are two different things. I just wanted to point that out, it could have been interpreted the wrong way. what you want to download on the link you provided is the "intel chipset software installation utility"
Thanks, guys. I'm going to try to install it as is, though, and hope my current version works fine ("Intel(R) 82845 Processor to AGP Controller", if I'm not mistaken, and the date of the driver is 01/07/2001 with version no. 5.1.2600.0) because I'm not sure the utility suggested would install correctly on my system and OS. I'll just hope for the best, I guess :fingers crossed: Wish me luck, ~peachsnowfalling~
harrack52: thanks for clarifying, I was a little nebulous, wasn't I? peachsnowfalling: if I were you, I'd at least try and install some newer drivers for your AGP controller. With a company like Intel, I wouldn't worry about a newer revision causing too much trouble. (With SIS or ALi, I'd be *VERY* worried ). Drivers from '01 are pretty darned old, you may have some issues with newer games and software. Especially with the brand new video drivers you'll need for your 9700...
