Hello :hi2: I have a toshiba external 250GB USB drive you can hear it start up OK but after a few seconds it crashes in windows. if i turn the drive on in POST screen or before i turn the pc on the pc will crash in windows xp startup display and the progress bar will pause and nothing will happen. it doesnt give me enough time to check if it detects the drive coz it crashes as soon as u turn the thing on. v strange! it doesnt seem to detect itself in bios /post. i have 4 internal cdroms and 1 hd already
that looks like a hardware conflict, have you got any drivers similar to that hard drive case? try connecting it to an older pc.
the only drivers i have are the bog standard windows ones havent plugged an external HD in this pc before. it works on other pcs just not this one oh i failed to mention i have 4 cd-rw drives and two hard disks C: and H: these are the only ones that appear in device manager
Are you using Windows Vista at this moment in time, i think maybe it will be a bug with the USB drivers and USB hdd in windows vista, install Windows XP on another partition and try that external hard drive in windows xp, if it works in xp, its a compatibility problem with windows vista that will be fixed proberbly in the Final release. *Edit* oh sorry, never fully read your post, i see your running windows xp.
