Hello, recently i opened my computer to clean it all due to it crashing constantly because (i think) it overheating and dust collecting up. After i was finished with cleaning every part i put them all back into the correct places and did not change anything. When everything was in place i turned on the power supply and pressed the button and the computer would not start at all, not even a sign of power. I did notice a very silent biiiiip which sounded like a fan spinning really fast siliently which i thought was coming from the power supply so i took it out and tryed it with another computer and it worked fine without the sound. Only when i connected it up to my motherboard i start to hear the silent fan-biiip sound. I am still not sure if the sound is coming from the motherboard or the power supply making the sound because of the motherboard. I beleive it can only be the motherboard failing because of something. I still havent been to my local PC shop to see if they can find an issue that i missed but till then i will try and find some help here. Please help, and thank you for replying. Motherboard : Asus P4P800-E Deluxe. CPU : Intel Pen4, 3.40Ghz RAM : DDRAM 1GB Antec power supply.
try reseating CPU, RAM & grfx card, if that doesn´t work remove all non essential components (only install and connect mobo, CPU, grfx card and front power switch on mobo, and it should power on, then add the removed components one at a time)
Thank you for replying. I have tryed that leaving only the RAM, CPU Power supply and graphic card in the computer. It still did not start. When i tryed the first time i saw no sign of power from the motherboard, when i looked at it today the power LED was on indicating that there is power on the motherboard. When i first had the problem of it not turning on i remember that the light was not on.
this may sound silly, but have you checked you didnt knock the wires which connect the power switch at the front of your computer to the motherboard out of place whilst you were cleaning? these are the little wires on the bottom corner of the motherboard
Check the power supply's connector to the motherboard. Disconnect and reconnect to be sure its firmly connected. Check the power switch on the PC's case and make sure it's properly connected to the motherboard. Try shorting the jumper pins that the switch uses to power on the PC. If that works, the switch is bad. Make sure the motherboard surface is not making contact with the metal case (except at its mounting points). Take the motherboard and power supply out of the case and place them on a non-conductive surface (wooden table, etc.). If it boots, something was probably shorting out in the case.
