Hi to all, I have a friend who has 2 computers on his fishing boat. Almost every trip he makes he blows a graphics card in one of the computers, it is usually the same computer each time. He takes the computer to a "professional" computer repair shop, they investigate and install a new card and send him on his way. No one seems to look for the fault as to "why" the cards keep blowing. Has anyone any ideas? Could the monitor send a "bad" signal back to the card and blow it? Could the cable be at fault? Bearing in mind, the computer would have been on continuously for more than 120 hours before the problem arose. TIA Keith
what psu is he using. it cud be the psu becoz it has been on for too llong and if its not a good one, then it may be sending too much voltage to the graphics card and blowing it up.
Thanks for your response. Can you tell me what is the psu? Is this the Power Supply Unit? In any case, I won't be able to check until he returns from sea in a couple of days. (I hope he can find his way back without his computer
That's probably what I expect to be wrong with that... The power supply, or just the power on the boat itself, even. If it isn't providing a good constant flow of power, then it would give cause for something to "blow out". After at least 120 hours, of running, I'd expect the power on the boat to diminish, even if just a bit. But don't take my word for it, I'm no boat expert. lol
Yea, maybe the power been supplied to the computer aint good, maybe loads of power fluctuations are causing stuff to blow out, soudns like the power supply was bad too, as usually any power fluctuations like that and it causes the power supply to shut off. Maybe as time goes bym, the boats power supply is been runned down and its messing up the computer?
