I've been aquiring parts for my newest computer for a while now, and I finally got everything. The only problem now is that I can't setup the RAID on the system at all. I'm trying to setup a RAID 0+1. It locks up while making it, after rebooting it shows the damaged RAID with the option to fix it and it locks up while doing that. When rebooted the RAID is now healthy and continues on, but then stops while booting from CD. If I disable all the RAID settings and make them individual drives they load fine to CD (apparently my xp pro disk has a problem) but it will load the OS CD. Any ideas what's going on? My system specs are below.
I hope someone here has an idea. I'm lost now.

is the problem occuring when you try to install XP (very soon after booting CD) try pressing F6 when it freezes and load your RAID drivers from the floppy

i personally am not exactly a fan of Maxtor HDD's (had a few failed, but can't fault maxtor, drives replaced quickly, but data lost, i prefer Seagate for HDD's, plus some guys on HWF agree)

No the problem also occurs when I create the raid in the bios. It just stops, and nothing happens. Is it possible that I need to update the bios? I did get one to go through the process, but when windows setup got to the partition creation it stopped again. And I did install the NVIDIA raid drivers.

Your comment about seagate vs maxtor is kind of funny now that segate bought out maxtor, but I know everyone has their HD preference. I personally hate western digital.

There is likely no physical hard drive issue. I would try the BIOS update. You are saying that the computer locks up while building the RAID right?

Yep. Since my last post I flashed the bios which didn't help. I also disabled the raid and got windows installed. However, one of the 4 drives wouldn't make a partition on setup. It froze there and again in windows when I tried to format it. I unplugged and replugged the cables for everything and got the 4th hd to format. I tried setting up the raid again after that, but with the same problems. I'm wondering now if the problem is the drive, a cable, or even the motherboard.

Well form the sound of that the problem may very well be that extra drive. I might run CheckDisk or something to see if it finds anything.I also might try doing a RAID 0 OR RAID 1 to see if that is the problem.
