ATI Drive installation hell

Ok, well i kind of got Kubuntu installed, i download ATi drivers, i have the dollowing files:
ati-driver-installer-8.27.10-x86_64.run
fglrx64_4_3_0-8.27.10-1.x86_64.rpm

I click on RUN, and an app called KATE comes up, this is a command line program :s, why does the installation process not come up?, i also don't know what to do with the .rpm file :s

Its soo hard to install it, there must be an easy way :(

Also i downloaded limewire, its a .rpm package, i get an open with box, do i need to download another app to install it with or something ? :s

RPM is the Red Hat package format and it will not work in debian (Kubuntu).

Ubuntu has repositories that have what you are looking for. If you go and download programs from a website and try to install them you are going to mess things up on your system.

So you don't need to go to ATI's website to get the driver, you can install it with synaptic or whatever variation of synaptic that comes with kubuntu. Just look for 'package manager' in your k-menu.

You might want to look at the ubuntu wiki for installation and setup how-to's because I don't know if the ati driver package automatically sets up your video settings.

Hmmm, so i cant download applications from any site? what if i found an app that was not on the ubuntu repositores?

follow this guide and you will have access to over 15,000 packages, and that would be just about everything you could ever want. If for some reason that what you are looking for is not there then you would need to install from source.

I didn't get time to read that source install guide so, sorry if it sucks but you can get the idea.

Ok, thanks, i will follow the guide now, i just want to get some apps that can do everything i want to do, then i need to install cadega or whatever its called, then install VMWare Server, and follow the guide to get emulated Windows XP, OH and of course install Unreal Tournament 2004, how will i go about doing that, do i just insert the disk and click on a file in the DVD's Directory?
