I have a question, I wish to have 2 harddrives set up on my P4P800-E DLX motherboard, both on an ide channel, however i want to set it up so that it can dual boot (meaning choose between one opererating system or the other) and also i want to make it so that either windows, does not pick up the other one as a local drive (like drive C: and E ,: for example) but both seperate HD's on the same cable. both operating system may be either entirley XP or 2000, one drive for gaming, and one work. Is this possible, and how is this done i dont want both drives to share information, but want them to be able to choose which one to boot up to Thanks.
well basically, yes but there are a number of ways to do it, first you need to decide which OS's you want, the best way is to use the same HDD, but if you want 2 separate drives thats fine, then decide if you want to use a bootloader (best way) or install an OS to each HDD (alone) then change 1 HDD to slave, and decide which OS you require and set the boot order in the BIOS (easier but noy the best way to do it) P.S. your not just restricted to MS OS's
I've never done this, but this may work: Install windows 2000 on your secondary drive, which should be on the second IDE channel. Then install XP onto your primary drive, and it should detect the 2K OS, and add a bootloader menu entry for it. Then you'll be able to choose which one to boot.
