Basically, when first running CPU-Z after the new install, it said it was running at 2.4 approx with a 12x multiplier instead of 17, so i waited and waited, and then an update came, which corrected the 'speed'. Now, using CPUID's PC Wizard, it's indicating that i'm still running at 2.4 with a 12x, which occasionally flickers to 3.4 and then back to 2.4, the reason that i ask, is because i got this chip oem off eBay ;)

And am a little bit paranoic, so if anyone has the same chip and uses CPUID's software, could they let me know how they score? As CPUID's stuff is supposed to be fairly reliable :p

    Thanks, Sam.

Have you checked in the BIOS as to what speed the CPU is running at?

Yeh i have, 3.4, but i read in some pc mag that in order to find the 'correct' cpu speed, you should download a program like cpu-z to confirm it as the BIOS gives the average '3.4'.

I'm just confused as all these 'reliable sources' are contradicting eachother.

Well the BIOS may say 3.4GHz but other programs will only give you info like:
3.401GHz or something, go with the BIOS - check your FSB and multiplier in there and if they make 3.4GHz then all is well.
