Hi, I have a slight problem (well, more a niggle) with my A64 3200+. After webbrowsing with music on etc... my BIOS is telling me it's running at nearly 40'c. I know this isn't anything to worry about but I have tried everything to lower them. I have got a bigger heatsink/fan from Akasa and re-applied the thermal paste with Arctic Silver 5. That lowered them a little bit, but the thing that really made a difference was adding two 80mm case fans. That lowered the temps by about 5'c and my motherboard temps never went over 22'c. But...I can't really work with the noise of the case fans, they do my head in LoL. I have come to the conclusion that heat is building up in the case and not escaping quickly enough but is there another way of getting the air to escape that isn't so noisy? Specs: Athlon64 3200+ Asus A8V Deluxe Wireless Mobo Q-tec 550w PSU ATI Radeon 9550 128mb (AGP) 20gb IDE Seagate (300gb Maxtor sponateously combusted) Anyway, cheers HougTimo
I rekon that the cpu temperature sensor is faulty, if everything is ok it shouldent be anything to worry about, maybe its your psu, Q -Tec doesent seem to be a very good brand, although it's most likely a faulty temperature sensor.
Well, what you could do is snag some Vantec Stealth fans. They run at a lower RPM, which lowers the noise. Additionally, make sure you have the airflow properly setup. Have the intake in the front, and the exhaust out the back. Heat rises, so this is the optimal configuration. If the noise is still a problem, then you *might* consider water cooling. However, I think just getting some low RPM fans (like the Stealth) would do the trick.
av u got cool n quiet on, it shud lower temps, my temps without CnQ are a bit higher but with CnQ they are around the 30's idle and 40-45 under load, using stock cooling. for the first few days the tepms werehigh, in the 50's idle but bout 2 days later, they went down and i also added a 120mm fan at the back
Izzy, withought cool and quiet what are you load temps and idle temps, since i have not got cool and quiet in, i been hitting nearly 50degrees and the fan is really REALLY annoying!, is there anywere to download cool and quiet, i lost the mobo disk.
Well, since it has to do with AMD's Athlon64 design, I'd wager that you could head over to AMD's website and snag it.
well wat mobo av u got and can it support cool and quiet, then no probz. jus go to the mobo manufacturers site, go to downloads and download the CnQ driver and install, then set power management in windows to minimal and enable cool and quiet in the bios and presto, uv got it enabled.
i dont see any diffo, think i might have broken the cpu lol, if so time to get an X2 dual core i think. but there total crap at overclocking right?
how did u manage to break it, lol. well i think they are pretty crap at OC'ing but they give quite an enough amount of performance already so i wudnt really be dissappointed. i read that 3dgameman.com OC his 3800x2 to 2.9ghz or sumthing but with voltage increase and his temps were pretty high. try to go with core duo. get the 6300 1.86ghz which outperforms almost all of the amd athlons and OC's like crap, OC it to 2.5ghz easily and you have rouself a 6600 at no extra cost, this core duo will cost you the same as an athlon 4200x2. at around £130. a matter of choice really since intel are steaming ahead of the game right now and you'll have a better chance of future upgradability.
and the core duo would woop that athlon x2, but it wouldent really be good at the moment, i got about 130 quid, i wont have any more money for quite a while, so i gotta thing, what can that money be best spent on, and of course now you can see, a core 2 duo just aint gonna work as i cant afford a core 2 duo + new mobo + a pci e gpu, gonna cost too much, i think that the 130 quid should go on either a HDD or cpu.
well uve got a descent cpu (fx57 i believe) and your hd should be alright, unless you need more space. if you dont really need a new pc right now, i wud suggest that you wait for a while for the prices to come down and by then hopefully save up some more money, then get a descent system
I dont really need a fully new pc i suppose, i am going to have to change my "my computer", i have an AMD 64 3700+ @ 2.8ghz which = to or better than a standard no OC'd FX57, how does the FX57 compare to the X2 5000+ and 3800+ cpu's? If it's almost as good, i might save up got AM2, PCI-e Mobo and 3700+ AM2 if they exist. (my comp updated)
