wow this thread is crazy, and spans a whole year, but what Nintendo finally accomplished and i think what they have been aiming for for since the Game Cube is to get "regular people" to play games and that they did. They got people who despise and name anyone who plays games a weirdo to buy a console!!! They completely went the opposite direction from what the industry is doing and are making a killing. Granted, they generally don't do to much for the hardcore gamer, but per capita, there are way more non gamers and casual gamers.
Hey how can you say that play station is the bestgame console i the world see the rankings on yahoo, googe .....
thats what you call an opinion, and i have a PS3, which i like, but i don't really care, all the same really. Just depends on what games you like.
Best being subjective in this case, for me the PS3 is the "best". I own a 360, and think it's a good, decent console with good network integration. But that doesn't change the fact that technologically, it is isn't quite there alongside the PS3.
The Xbox360's GPU is better than the PS3's though. PS3's is based on a 7800/7900 whilst the 360's is based on X1900/R600 or something similar.
However in terms of pure processing power the Cell Broadband Architecture just outdoes the 360 hands down. Plus the 360 doesn't include WiFi as standard, or a next-gen high-def optical drive, and if you want *true* HD output via HDMI then you have to buy an elite - errm, ripoff?
Yes of course I totally forgot that the 360 was being used for scientific research for it's computational power, including the GPU.
Personally ive usualy gone for gameplay and not always graphics, however atm im prefering the WII and 360 over the ps3 i think the PS3 has come abit early and theres not a market ready for the technology it over blu ray etc, maybe when the price comes down a little and more games are out it may take over?????? only time will tell Dave
You have to remember the 360 has had a head start because it was throttled to bring the price down. The use of a DVD drive in early models along with selectable HDD sizes sure helped but this means that people had to upgrade the console (eh?) by adding the HD DVD drive. This will also limit the size of games produced, because like the PC, the games will have to be written to bear in mind the specification of the majority owners So now to bear in mind the coming of HDTV a new 360 model has had to be released adding features that previously had to be axed to cut initial production costs. this was never intended with PS3 but sadly has now occured due to the inability to bring the initial production costs down. Although Sony are sticking to their guns and keeping Blu-ray (How many DVD's did Oblivion neeed) along with the general hardware specs, sadly the biggest selling point, the ps2 compatibility, has been axed. Good for sales as the costs have reduced, bad for reputation!!! Now extra USB ports have to be added in order to play Rock band. Lets face it though. Who's winning the format war? well, which console was sold out in the run up to christmas? And why? The innovative play style that has got the whole family playing together. With 2 consoles and only one big TV in my household its not difficult to see which one will get played the most. The boys like the ps3 and guitar hero but when raving rabbids is mentioned the girls take over!!!
True about the Wii. Although personally I've never liked the controller, or the gameplay. Just me, but I think it gets fairly repetitive, and because of the low power the range of games can be limited in comparison to the other 2. About the PS2 compatibility, it is a shame but lets be honest. Who buys a PS3 to play PS2 games? If my brother wants to play a ps2 game, he can just turn his uber-slim ps2 on, and switch video input to SCART. Likewise we didn't buy a 360 just to play older XBOX games. Although that has a weaker case, considering the sheer size of the XBOX in comparison to slimline PS2.
Personally i wouldn't have any of the current gen consoles. I was stood in my local Gamestation recently pondering the idea. Then it dawned on me that i only ever play on my PC and every now and then on the Saturn. i like online RPG's, and RTS's and there isn't a market for these games on console.
is there a reason people say PC gamers get ripped off though? I supose we party do sometimes... good thing about a console, is that its guarentee'd to work
hecks yeah, i completely agree, i still play really old game just because they are so good, not because they are pretty. (in their own respect they are pretty)
I'm so glad I got a PS3 instead of the Xbox. No way was I going to pay for something that I can do for free (on the ps3) and already do for a monthly price (computer). PS3 comes with blu-ray, is taking over exclusives this year or recently. Both consoles are ridiculously good, and I've be glad to have both. But PS3 in my book watch these videos Console Wars Round 12: The Finale - TechnoBuffalo That's the 12th round, watch all 12 rounds on there. Very interesting and enjoyable videos imo
