Hi everyone, On a recent visit to the states, I bought an asus P5P800-vm motherboard along with some other bits to save myself some money whilst getting a new pc. I gave my local pc shop the job of building the computer as I didn't have a lot of time and I needed it fairly quickly. When I received my pc I downloaded a Hyper-Threading Technology Test Utility from the Intel website to check the HT capabilities of my processor. This utility told me that my bios and motherboard weren't HT compatible even though my motherboard is supposed to be. I looked into the issue a little more and found that I am using intels biios version gc11020M.86A.1065.2006.0502.1638. According to my motherboard manual (available on the asus website), I should be using asus' own bios (not sure what version). So how did I manage to get a different bios on my system? I'm not really sure however I checked the motherboard cd rom I received and it is Intel's Express Installer Drivers and Software Application for the Intel Desktop Board D102ggc2. (see link for picture) Newegg.com - Once You Know, You Newegg THe CD I should have received however should look like this: Newegg.com - Once You Know, You Newegg So I asked at the pc shop to see if they messed up however they say they didn't and although I didn't take a good look at the disc I have to say that I think the intel one came in the box. I have tried looking for my motherboard receipt to contact the retailer in America however I haven't found it (yet!) I am going to try and get Asus to send me the CD which contains bios support and some software called EZ flash. Looking at the 2 motherboards they both seem to have identical specs and I heard asus are a subsidiary of intel so I'm not sure if a mistake has been made at all. Could someone clarify this for me? More importantly however I wanted to know how to remove the intel bios and reinstall the asus bios over it? I'm not even sure if it is possible to remove the bios. I have also heard that removing the bios completely can leave the pc dead so I would like to seek your advice before proceeding. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys
You don't have to remove the BIOS. All you do is flash it to another version (the process erases the previous one automatically). You can download all you need from asus directly. ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

The following link only mentions when using the motherboard for the first time (which I am not doing) or using EZ flash (which I don't have as the correct software and drivers were not installed in the first place).ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- Also, is there a way of flashing the bios without using a floppy as I dont have a floppy drive. The only way you can flash the bios without a floppy drive is to use a program which comes with the CD. You simply connect to the internet, open the program and click on update. The other way is to download the update onto a floppy disk and press Alt-F2 upon bootup which will load up the EZ Flash on the motherboard. This isnt something you install, its already on the board. Seeing as you dont have a floppy drive (and the EZ Flash only scans the A: drive) your best bet is to download the program which would have been on your proper Asus disk. Everything that is on the disk is usually available on the Asus website. The Asus site is slow at the moment but when it eventually loads i'll have a look. Try this link... Zeus I tried the BIOS utilities program however I get the following error messages (see attached images). I will try to borrow a floppy drive and try the EZ flash way. Thanks again
Hi guys, I have now clarified the motherboard confusion after taking a closer look at the board itself. It seems that my motherboard is actually the Intel® Desktop Board D101GGC2so the bios is correct. This motherboard actually came in the Asus P5P800-VM box (hence my reason for thinking I had the wrong bios etc). So now I definitely know which motherboard I have and that my bios is correct, I can actually address the main reasons which caused this wild goose chase. So the 2 issues I have are as follows: I want to reduce the amount of memory my integrated video card is using from 128mb to 64mb however I cannot see any way of doing this in the bios. According to Intel's website, (see link for full details on the graphics card) Intel® Desktop Board D101GGC - Integrated Video Specifications I only have one spare PCI slot which I was hoping to use for a wireless card so getting a graphics card isn't an option. The second issue as stated in my original post is: The test results are shown in the attached images. I am not sure what to do. I have used everest home edition to scan my hardware however this utility cannot identify the motherboard name (see attached image). Oh s**t. Looks like my motherboard chipset is not HT compatible. Now what do I do? Keep using a processor that is not performing to its max or spend more money on another motherboard? Life stinks!! Thanks for all your help but this thread is now closed.
