I have recently bought a Maxtor 6L250S0 250GB SATA Hard Drive and am having issues in getting Windows XP SP2 to recognise it. There is currently a Maxtor 120GB IDE Hard Drive installed and want this one as a storage Drive. Entering the systems BIOS tells me that the motherboard is recognising the drive in its list of Hard Drives but I cannot get Windows to recognise it. I have downloaded the MaxBlast 4 software but my new drive is not in the list on that. On entering the model number it asks whether it is ATA, SATA or IDE so obviously I selected SATA. Then on reboot, I connect up the drive, but it still won't have it. I know that there may be issues in Windows only recognising 139GB of the drive so I may need to partition (although I have downloaded a patch for the config to allow larger drives) but the drive is not recognised at all! Please can you help!! Btw, motherboard is K8 1689 Update with AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3400+ clocking in at 2.4GHz with 1GB of RAM
check this and are you sure you've installed drivers for your new HDD, although i'm not sure about the drivers
RightClick MyComputer > Manage > Disk Management......Under Right hand side bottom, you might find your disk with unallocated space. Right Click on it and click intitialise and then format it for use.
RightClick MyComputer > Manage > Device Manager, try to find if there is any thing with yellow traingle here??
