Help Needed

    First of all HI!!! im Stephen, and sorry if im posting in the wrong area i thought this section would be the closest thing to my problem, when im downloading movie files from the internet they wont play on my computer unless they are MPG or MPEG formats .AVI files will not play on my computer, they used to untill i formated my computer last week sometime and its really annoying me how i cant play them now but i could last week.

    any help would be appreciated thanks in advance

    have you altered file associations ?
    what program are you trying to play the .avi's with ?

    i havent altered anything and im trying to use windows media player (thats what i was using before)

    scan for spyware / viruses, redownload WMP, uninstall WMP, restart computer then install the newly downloaded WMP and if that doesn't work then you need to get some new codecs, can't remember where to get codecs (cos it's being a while since i used XP, if you can't get it working just let me know, and ill try to find the right codecs for you)

    Edit: BTW:What version of WMP

    Ahh!...I think stephen just needs a Codecs Pack to play all the extensions.... I would suggest to download the K-Lite Codecs Pack. Its free....just google for it..
    Alternatively, go to microsoft.com and download Windows Media Player Codecs Pack if your player is earlier than Version10

    WOOOHOOOOO i downloaded the K-Lite Codec Pack and all is fine now WooT WooT thanks for the help guys, think i's stick around here :D
