[link=http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/comp/ram/parityBoot-c.html]This[/link] might give u some help...Also can u please provide the Event with complete information... I mean with event ID etc as well... Y do you have to press CTRL+ALT+DEL dialog button. To update chipsets drivers, just rightclick on mycomputer > manage > device manager... there select your processor > right click > update drivers...
I meant the login screen. Anyway, let me give it a try. Here's the full details from the eventlog. It could be your IDE cable or HDD bad sectors or RAM etc... First of all, you check your cable....I know that you've installed everything through same cable but still in case... Remove the CD drive and put the HDD in that place..and see if it crashes. Then you need to check ur HDD.... Run [link=https://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/Guides/DROpsGuide/4602ebdc-30a6-4459-98e4-ff4f4cdbf1f3.mspx?mfr=true]Check Disk[/link] for it... Then, as StimpE said, Run [link=http://www.memtest.org/]Memory Test[/link] to check the RAM of your SYstem....
It does not reboot by iteself when I remove the CDROM completely and just connect the HD to the CDROM connector on the motherboard. So, it looks like I cannot use both. Thats a bummer. I have this RAID controller with me. It was used in this system before. I was thinking if it is possible to use the RAID controller for the HD. Another thing. Is a RAID controller any different from a normal IDE control? Its just that a guy at FRYs told me they are different and so I bought the ULTRA IDE controller card to try my HD on. But I just found out that this IDE controller card needs a HD LED connector on the motherboard and mine only has an Array LED controller to be used with the RAID controller. So, I guess I cant use the new IDE contoller card either!!
It's an LED. Light Emitting Diode. It working or not will not interfere with the ability of the card to operate. You won't have something light up in the worst case, but that's it. The Array LED may only be setup for RAID mode, but if it's a header for your case LED, there's no good reason why it shouldn't work. RAID cards have the ability to form a hardware-based RAID array, but if they're only psuedo-RAID, then there must be a driver added, which are typical of most desktop/enthusiast motherboards and those $30 add-in cards. Full hardware RAID relies exclusively on the hardware, and doesn't require a special driver when in RAID mode. However, controllers like this are found on $300-1,000+ server/workstation motherboards and $200-600+ SCSI (and a few ATA) RAID cards. The pseudo-RAID cards are so cheap because they make use of the CPU for processing. Those $500 RAID cards have a dedicated processor for computing the arrays not to mention included RAM and/or a slot to add RAM for data buffering.
I think I did not understand what you are saying. Sorry about that. So, you are saying that I dont need to connect the HD LED at all for my IDE controller card to work? I have already tried that before I even saw the instuctions to install the card. It said it did not find the OS.
Well, that didn't last long. The next day, the system started rebooting itself even when the CD-ROM is not connected. And now, there is nothing in the eventlog at all that tells me what might have gone wrong before it rebooted. I am beginning to wonder if there is something wrong with the motherboard itself.
Remove all non-essential components and disconnect non-essential cables (including IDE, floppy, etc.). All you should need to reach the initial boot screen (memory count, etc.) are: the motherboard, CPU, RAM, power supply, and graphics card. If it boots, start adding components one at a time, and boot up each time. When the system won't boot, you've found your faulty (or incorrectly installed or incompatible) component.
Well, I have no problem logging in. The problem a couple of minutes after I log in. Anyway, IDE is the only thing that is connected right now. I have disconnected the CD-ROM and the floppy too. The wierd thing is it does this 2 out of 3 times.
Yes. I can. After I enter windows and I start working on something, it just boots itself. I even left the system at login screen without logging in and I have seen it reboot sometimes.
Do u have any live cd? like Ubuntu Live? Just plug ur CD rom and run ur computer on it to make sure that its just HDD problem...
Nope. I dont have any live CDs!! I do have one linux OS that can run from a CD. Do you think it is going to help??
Here is what I m thinking.... Run that Linux OS from CD drive (Remove the HDD) and see if your PC reboots again. If it doesnt then that means that problem is relating to ur HDD and everything else is fine...
The OS is Knoppix and it the system did not restart as it always did. Does that mean there is in fact something wrong with the HD? I dont think I told you this before but I tried this on 2 seperate drives. The reboot happens on both of them!! Well, maybe I should just get a working HD from someone and see how it respnds.
Thats great! This ensures that there is nothing wrong with any other peace of ur computer and we dont have to do any other test xpt HDD's.... Yea! I also think that u havnt told about this before...Neways, Good idea......
