i bought a western digital 250gb hard drive for my new comp. it was part of my first build, when i finally got everything up and running it recognized the hard drive as only being 137gb. Im not sure on how to fix it and i dont want to screw anything up! any ideas or suggestions would be nice thx!
Which Windows have u got? If Win XP then make sure that u have atleast upto SP1 installed... Anyways, Go to Disk Management (RightClick Mucomputer > Manage > Disk Management )... on the right hand side bottom of it, can u see any unallocated space?.. Just right click on it and initialise..Computer will ask u to format it as well. Just do it!
i have tried that but all the space only adds up to 137gb but i dont have any service packs yet im still waiting for them to come, should i just wait for them?
Which windows are u on? You can install SP's from [link=http://www.microsoft.com]Microsoft's Website[/link] anytime under their download section...
I have the same problem. The only thing is my 200GB HDD is read as 128GB and I HAVE XP SP2 installed (it is integrated into the XP installation CD). I posted a similar thread not so long ago but never really got a solution. I've searched the web for many months now looking for solutions and have discovered that, for some, its not even a problem. For others on the other hand, theres all sorts of suggestions (mainly driver and BIOS based - but the full capacity of my HDD is recognised in BIOS, therefore the problem must lie in Windows), but none clearly explain why it happens. 48bitLBA.com - HOME does seem to have a good explanation of the problem, though I am not putting any of it into practice until I can get chance to back up my data, reformat, and then try things.
even my bios recognizes the hdd as 137gb instead of 250, but ill install the sp's and c if that helps, thx for the help
Hi, I had a similar problem on installing a 250Gig drive in my file server, An old AMD 950 not sure of the Mobo running Server 2003 Anyway the only way I found round it was to install a PCI to IDE controlling card. Did the trick anyway
