k, i bout an acer laptop from a local pawn shop and brough it home tried to get on the internet and have all the password protected areas i guess i'd need to know if theirs any way to reset the admin password without having to reinstall windows since i obviously dont have the disk for it. i would have to downgrade to like 98 or something and would hate to have to do that. so if theirs any way i appreciate any help thx.

Use NT Password Changer to blank out the password on administrator account. Then you can get in and reset the password, add accounts for yourself, etc.

Assuming you have got XP Home....Go to safe mode and you will be able to enter inside the computer without entering any password...Change things from there!

I'm so used to working in business environments, I didn't even think about XP Home. Karanislove's right about that. However, if it's Windows NT4, Windows 2000 Pro or XP Pro, use NT Password Changer like I suggested earlier and set a blank password for the administrator account, and re-enable it if necessary. I don't recommend setting a password from within NT Password Changer; that part can be done once you're already into Windows.
