Hi guys, when i go to play a game, a game like Counterstrike source, or even a game as low as Shadowbane, i can play for about 10 minutes to an hour, then my computer clicks, then freezes, itll just freezes!! and i cant get out unless i hit the restart button, hell, and i fix computers, but this problem i cannot fix. i know its nothing in my computer cause i just added a brand new X-FI XtremeMusic sound card, which works beautifully, and theres nothing wrong with my ATI X1600PRO Video card, i use the latest drivers, and i get usually around 80-100 FPS on those games, what im really worried about, is if it freezes about 10 times constantly, my windows xp goes corrupt and i have to reformat every 10 or so times it does that, this is the 2nd reformat i did, and im seriously about to take a sledge to it, i have 1280 ultra ram, (a 1 gig stick and 256), it does this on games only. Im using my sisters 40gb harddrive, not sure if this is the problem, i really do not know if it is SATA IDE or anything, (im only knowledgable on building computers, i still have to learn about harddrives), I have seen many posts on this, and i have tried reformmatting, cleaning up any viruses with norton antivirus 2006, i tried everything, spyware doctor, adaware pro, its not a software problem im sure, it must be a hardware problem and i am really going insane... i also have a 600w Lead-Power power supply and the temps when i am off are 45 and when playing 50-60
Make sure that ur onboard sound is disabled... As you said that u know how to build computer...... IDE HDD works with IDE cables, IDE cables also work with ur CD DRIVES... ND Sata Drives works with SATA cables.....Which means IDE cables are different from SATA cables ... Jst run a quick search in google pictures nd you will come to know how they looks like... Run Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool to check for RAM errors..... Can you tell whats the make and model of the PSU?
The make and model of the PSU : Lead-Power, model LP-600 and ill run the memtest now, thanks. dont lose this post i might need you! :0
what is this the temp of ? presumably it is the CPU, i would think about upgrading your cooling or increasing your air flow, cos 60 is about the hottest your CPU should get
Non-matching size memory modules have been known to cause crashing in games. However, it's more likely to be corrupt memory. Imagine memory to be many blocks that fill up as more memory is required. The moment data is written to a bad block and is attempted to be read again, the data is corrupt and can therefore crash windows or whichever application is in use. The reason it only happens during games is because games are more memory-intensive than your average desktop apps, and the more memory is in use, the more chance you have of data being written to a bad block. Remember, the latest drivers aren't always the best ones. Roll them back or remove your current drivers and install an older driver version and see if that helps. For example, when I used to have an X800GTO2, the latest drivers made Oblivion and a few other games crash at points. I rolled back to older drivers and the problem ceased to persist. Everything? Have you tried running chkdsk to search for errors in the hard drive? When I purchased some faulty memory, my copy of windows slowly degraded to the point of BSOD on startup. You're lucky to have two sticks of RAM to hand, because if one of them is faulty, at least you can still run windows with the other one while you order replacement RAM for the corrupt piece. Take Karanislove's advice and run the memtest. That piece of software is the handiest thing. Hope all turns out fine for you, Mike
