Can i boost my old computer to play 1080P HD video

Nah, a media center should work flawlessly and delays ain't that entertaining as you may know. I would save up for a new PC. Won't be that expensive if you don't want to play games on it.

    pass word

I bet it doesn't have Win98, but I'll post this anyway (you've probably already seen this, but well...)

Visual Studio and numerous apps not installing

Yes, the "upgrades" is my bad. Updates. Okay, so the next thing you could do is to revise all your installed programs. Remove everything that you don't use (maybe one of them f*cked up all of this - has happened to me on a couple of occasions) and also all the heavy stuff (backup...

New Gaming Rig Build ( Finishing touches )

I would say that it's a quite cool machine. A HD5870 would be more appropriate, though.

    GA-945GCM-S2C Compatible with E8400?

Google, much? Okay, there you go. You can overclock the cpu to as much as you want to, main thing is to do it slowly and with a lot of stability testing + 3rd party cooling.

New build randomly shutting down within 20 minutes

Is the PC shutting down after a certain time no matter what you do? I mean: whether you're in BIOS, whether you're installing a OS or whether you're just staring at "no bootable disk" text? What is the actual shutdown interval length. Is it really around the same time or more random? Take...

Visual Studio and numerous apps not installing

Maybe you should check what software dependencies VS2008 and Office 2007 has. They usually install everything that they need themselves, but maybe this time around they need a nudge in the right direction. Do you also have the latest OS upgrades?

Do i need to get CPU cooler if i am not into gaming?

You need a cooler that is on you CPU directly - doesn't matter if it's the stock or a 3rd party one. No sensible amount of case coolers will suffice if you have no cooler on the CPU itself.

    Gaming Desktop for around 700$

Looks quite nice until I saw the HD5450, although for the games stoogemeister mentioned, it should be quite ok.

    COD Black OPS

I've played the first couple of levels thus far and must say that I am inclined to say that this is a really great game. The engine is the old one but it's leaped in looks much more than in previous game changes (MW>>WAW>>MW2 those leaps were not as huge as MW2>>BO is) and it's gotten great...

    Power Supplt/Compatibility

The PSU should be ok. The components seem to fit together at first glance, but can't say 100% w/o manually searching the compatibility lists. The only way to be sure is to do that yourself (that's actually the hardest work of all when putting a PC together - you should know that since this ain't...

    Need advice for PC hardware.

I think it's a good mainstream machine. I would go with a more powerful PSU, though (650W 80+ at least).

    what is better for gaming?

To my mind, any wireless mouse is good enough. Even better if it has invisible optics - all those colorful led's do brainf*ck only.

    1280x1024 not fullscreen

Hm, I didn't think of what. There is no default aspect ratio option available, but maybe editing a file will do.

Supplied paste vs separate paste in 3rd party CPU coolers

Got it, installed it with the supplied paste and kapow! No shit - 17 degrees cooler (previously it hovered around 40C) than with the stock fan on idle and even cooler on full-out load (like 20C cooler). What a f*ckfest the stock HSF is on the new Core i# CPUs! Even without using a 3rd party...

    1280x1024 not fullscreen

I am starting to think that it's not fullscreen cause it's a hardcore port. Both Watchmen (incl Part 2) and WRC have this problem. And not only on my machine. Does anyone own these games for the PC? How's it with the fullscreen mode? Got filmstrips?

    Where'd everyone go?

This is my first forum, too. This is actually the only forum of which I consider myself to be a part of, like 'actually' a member. I do like it and I am checking in once a week as a minimum (Have hardwareforums on my quickdial site in Opera). Sometimes I create threads, too. I think it's...

    Mini Game system

basically any mainstream mATX motherboard will do (it should support a 4 core CPU, good RAM (i.e. DDR3 at least at 1333MHz w/ Dual Channel) and PCIE 16x expansion cards). Any decent GPU will not be small, though and will probably be the biggest thing in the system (not only in terms of flat...
