Not entirely wrong. Partitions are virtual and are created 'on the fly' when using encryption software. The best way i know of (and most secure) is a little piece of free software called TrueCrypt. It will do exactly what you need.

Chances are, you'll have to put a jumper on the HDD to force it operate at SATA 150Gb/s speeds. If you have no spare jumper caps, your local computer shop will give you one.

A SATA2 HDD will work fine as long as you jumper it. And yes, it will operate at traditional SATA standards.

I've got it downloaded and ready to install on my laptop. I'm hoping it'll all go smoothly, especially after the problems Addis has faced with his wireless network. A simple install of the MadWiFi drivers for my Atheros chipset and all should be well :)
