    Yet another RAM problem!

Just a thought. I replaced my old PSU (300 W) with this Komplett.co.uk - Fortron/Source Powersupply ATX 400W Bulk, 120mm Fan, SATA, 20/24pin today. Would this be likely to make a difference to the RAM performance?

    Getting a new PSU.

I installed the PSU Komplett.co.uk - Fortron/Source Powersupply ATX 400W Bulk, 120mm Fan, SATA, 20/24pin that Big B recommended. It's excellent - its fan is huge (120 mm) and improves system cooling - My case temperature has dropped by approximately 5c.

    Yet another RAM problem!

My board just does not seem to be able to take more than 1 stick of DDR RAM at a time. I of course, have 2 DIMM sockets (184 pin), but if I put, say, a 256MB stick in slot 1, and a 512MB stick in slot 2 - the PC just crashes with a BSOD (relating to memory failure - I think). Both the...

    Is my motherboadrd faulty?

Yes, DarkStranger. I quiet agree. It was something I saw on a site. On reflection, I think what they were refering to was actually a PSU test (as has been stated by Ghostman). Here's a link to, perhaps, a more accurate description of what they actually meant to convey. Power...

    Is my motherboadrd faulty?

Have you tried this? I saw the following on a site the other day: "To verify it is not the motherboard giving the problems, take a paper clip and insert it into the green and black terminals of the PSU plug -after it is removed from the motherboard of the computer. Press the power...

    Overclock Advice Needed!

My board is maxed-out as far as installing a faster CPU is concerned (so I've been told). However, I would not mind trying a modest overclock to try to get a bit more speed out of the processor. Any advice would be welcomed. Please see 'My computer' for system details. Thanks, David.

Weird RAM problem only with XP!

I may have been a bit impatient. I just tried leaving the 'egg timer' to run for a couple of minutes - and, hey presto - it turned back into a mouse pointer. It seems okay now and is running normally. I'm just left wondering why the 'lag' on getting past the splash screen.

Weird RAM problem only with XP!

Yes, big Bro - I can get into Safemode. EDIT: I notice that there is only one short 'beep' on start-up (there normally are 2).

Weird RAM problem only with XP!

Hi, there. I put a brand new stick of 512MB PC3200 400MHz RAM in my Desktop PC - which is dual-booting XP & Ubuntu. In XP, the 'egg timer' just runs and runs and I can't access any programs. Now, if I boot over into Ubuntu - everything works perfectly - no problems at all! I tested the...

    'Power-on' buttons.

Thanks, Dave. I was just thinking how it could be achieved because a friend of mine says his 'Power-On' button has inexplicably cracked! He must have been very 'heavy-thumbed', so to speak!

    'Power-on' buttons.

Is it possible to repair or replace a broken 'Power-On' button on a PC's case and perhaps the wiring that connects it to the motherboard? Or, is it necessary to buy a whole new case? Many thanks, David.

    Wrong RAM reading?

Update: Well, finally got it sorted. My motherboad cannot take 'High Density' RAM. I overlooked this, or rather didn't acknowledge it, when I ordered the RAM, and that's the reason why 'My Computer' in XP only read the 1GB stick as 512MB -half its true value! Oh well - live and learn...

    Wrong RAM reading?

Yeah, I agree, Big Bro. I have even updated my BIOS, but it made no difference. I'm starting to think that it might be a density issue, as the 1GB RAM stick that I bought is high density - maybe my board can't take that kind of RAM? The board should be able to take 2GBs of 184 pin or 2GBS of...
