would a USB pendrive use much less power than a regular hard drive? i need a laptop

take off all your case connectors/switches to your motherboard find the power on jumpers on your motherboard from your motherboard manual, case won't have anything to do with it really use a screwdriver or some metal piece to short the two jumpers but be careful not to hit anything else

you might be fine, is it the nv40 core? they're pretty solid make sure if you do any flashing, you have a regular PCI card to flash it back if you mess up !
