Was the case wrapped in bubble wrap or perhaps polystyrene?
If so the friction caused by both could cause a minute amount of static and as Ghost says it's nothing to worry about.

It could well be that the circuit breaker trip could have damaged the PSU and although it may appear to look ok is in fact not supplying the correct voltage that is needed.
Well to my mind by the time you have tried to solder obscure wiring from an SD reader to two cards, if such a thing can be done which I doubt, then you could have put two individual cards in to transfer the data.

When buying rechargeable batteries for things like a wireless mouse, keyboard etc try to get those with the highest mAh (Milliamps per Hour) rating as they will obviously last longer.
Compare those listed here from the ones that come non charged to the pre charged...
