ok so iv got a friend who has a laptop from awhile ago (the wireless cards driver dates to july 2001) which was supposedly assembled by some branch of the military. so its malfunctioning, and i need to do a factory restore, but i need to save pictures and files and such from the drive, which requires me to hook it up to my computer (normally i would use the typical SATA plug) and transfer the files. my problem is this: iv never seen this adapter before. its not SATA, its not PATA, IDE, or anything else i can think of. which since its from 2001 i can understand not having a SATA plug. being that it is made by the military, i can understand that the plug isnt common [the drive has a sticker on it that says "this medium is UNCLASSIFIED US government property SF 710 (1-87)"] it is 1 & 1/2 in. with 22 pins on each side of the plug. and on the right of the plug, it has 4 free-standing pins (not coming off of a chip that inserts into anything) which i assume is the power. looking up S/Ns and such i think its an ATA-100 adapter but im not too sure made a facebook with the pix uploaded (wont let you see w/o an account facebook.com/ata100hdd and a myspace http://www.myspace.com/574583433 and if you still cant see them lemme know how to UL to the forum... please please please i need some help here
Hi, I am pretty sure this is an IDE connector. 2.5 inch hard drives have 44 pins while desktop IDE hard drives have 40 pins. This is a fujitsu hard drive. You should be able to find an adapter to convert it to sata. I think the unclassified sticker the military put on it pertains to the security level of the data that was saved to it. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_pins_does_a_notebook_IDE_connector_have_a_desktop_IDE_connector
