Hi all, just last night, I upgraded my broadband from 2 to 8 meg. My thought is, that my modem will be bottlenecking the 8 meg as when I dial to my ISP, it says "connection at 2.2MBPS" I think that means the speed of the connection from the modem to my PC, not the actualy net speed. Anyway, on the box of my modem, it says under specification: "ITU-T G.992.1 (G.DMT): / ANSI T1.413 Issue 2 downstream 8Mbps, upstream 1Mbps" and below that it says: "ITU-T G.992.2 (G.Lite): downstream 1.5Mbps, upstream 512Kbps" The modem is a "Mentor ADSL USB Modem" (USB 1.0 and 1.1 compliant) The ISP contacted me saying it may take up to a week for my speed to change, anyway, I want to know how to enable this full rate thing so I can get 8Mbps (unless I am just plain wrong about the speed it comes up with) Suggestions much appreciated thanks
you need to find out (possibly from you ISP) which standard they are using[ot]as your modem supports both G.992.1 and G.992.2[/ot]or check your ISP's website to see which standard they use[ot]who is your ISP ?[/ot]
Also you say 'last night' did they say the change would be immediate? In my experience ISP admins arent the quickest of life forms and have known it to take many days for changes to be implemented.
they said up to 10 days, does that mean the speed will "auto configure" if i select auto on everythin? and i will wake up 1 mornin and it`ll say 8 meg rather than 2.2? and im on tiscali uk
Well you'll have to wait the ten days before you'll be able to contact them to find out if there is a problem... sit tight till the ten days are up i'd say.
