Hi, This is my system config. P4 1.6A (400 FSB) Kingston 512MB DDR333 Valueram, 2.5-3-3-7 at 166mhz MSI 845PE AGP Sapphire ATI 9550 I recently bought a 512 MB DDR 333 Ram (non valueram), running at 2.5-3-3-7 too. Before i added the 512 mb, my pc was running fine. But after adding the ram, my PC's hard disk activity seems to up higher, and my computer lags more. The mouse trails starts teleporting and my MP3s distorted. NOTE: 1. when i inserted my RAM, i had to do a CMOs reset, after which everything happened. 2. Due to the sucky 1.6A FSB, my DDR333 is running at a lower speed, at 133, to get a 1:1 ratio. and my FSB overclocked to 133 3. Despite getting back a 1:1, the computer is still laggy. 4. I have tried removing the new ram and using back the same old configuration, and the problem is still there. 5. My BIOS is up to date Any ideas? thanks =)
Same thing I was thinking. The DOS family of Windows OSes, Windows 95, 98 and ME, all have some issues with more than 512mb RAM. The NT family however, NT4, Windows 2000 and Windows XP, have no such problems. You might also test and make sure the RAM is compatible with your system. I know this sounds strange since they are both the same brand, but there are more than one manufacturer of the chips themselves, and sometimes they don't play nice with older Intel rigs. My advice is to download Memtest86+ and let it run at least a few complete tests. Preferrably, let it run overnight. If it comes up with even one error after the tests, we have a problem.
