 Hello people hope things are well with you all, I love the Board,

    what i would like to ask is i have K8T Neo2 with a AMD 64 3500 venice core 1GB ram 120GB HD (IDE) ,
i didnt install the sata drivers when i setup as i had no SATA HD now im thinking of getting one (250GB).

On post it says no bios installed and it says SATA2 150, ive been reading and some SATA drives are 300
does this mean i have to get a 150 speed drive ?? soz just not sure.

also will an operating system install onto the SATA drive??
also it wont let me install the SATA drivers from the floppy DO i have to reinstall the OS so i can load them?,
Thank you in advance folks, :)

Windows 2000 and XP (as well as any recent release of Linux) should detect the SATA controller and install onto it just fine. However, if you have to enable RAID to get the drive to be seen, then you will need to provide a driver for it.

SATA and SATAII hard drives (150MB/s and 300MB/s, respective maximum transfer speeds) are the same otherwise, so you'll be able to use a SATAII hard drive on a SATA I controller and vise-versa without issue.

Just remember: 300MB/s is a burst rate, not sustained rate. However, as drive technology improves, these will allow for faster sustained transfer rates, which run anywhere from 40MB/s to 60MB/s for ATA drives. So, a SATA II drive is going to generally be a better drive in performance vs. a SATA I drive, all things being more or less equal.
