I am looking to create a PC Frankenstein's Monster. I would like to switch a few of the guts form one PC to the other... ---- PC 1# Specs ---- CPU: 1.5 ghz Pentium 4 HDD: 80 Gig HDD RAM: 128 mb RDRam GFX CRD: Nvidia TNT2Pro 32 mb OS: Win ME ---- PC 2# Specs ---- CPU: 700 mhz Pentium 3 HDD: 1.0 gb HDD RAM: 512 mb SDRam GFX CRD: 8 mb Ati 3D Rage OS: Win XP I was definitely thinking of putting the 80 gb HDD and the TNT2Pro in PC #2. My question is Will the slower CPU speed lower the efficacy of the extra ram? However if you have any other suggestions please be my guest. Also, I am not looking to put any money in to these machines as there both quite old. Thank you
Why are you wanting to move hardware to PC2, its allot older than PC1 with a much much slower CPU. I dont think the CPU will lower the efficiency of the ram but i am not sure as if PC2 will support the ram in PC1.. What ram are you wanting to put in PC2?
i would start by switching the OS[ot]and don't use Win9x[/ot] Edit: yeah, PC1 is probably 184 pin DDR RAM & PC2 is probably 168 pin SDRAM
Lol yea i dont think his PC2 would run Win XP especially with 1GB hdd, it wont even fit on 0_o. But i wouldetn expect anything from PC2 to be compatible with PC1 or the other way around, only the HDD's would be compatible with each other. PC2 would run maybe Ubuntu on it ok, but it would deffenitly need a bigger HDD..
[ot]LOL[/ot]yeah, combineing PC1 with PC2 would probably be imposible, as PC1 probably has an ATX mobo and PC2 probably has an AT mobo it would probably need a HDD controller[ot]if upgrading controller, he may as well go for a SATA controller[/ot]
no, in today's "throw away" society it is cheaper to just buy a new system than worrying about upgrading from say AT or 168 pin RAM in a system[ot]just get a new system, & accept the fact that a system will only be upgradable for about a year or two, my system is a 1700Mhz Intel Celly and i'll be buying a new system when the mobo dies[/ot]
