i thought AVG was ok but after mega saying it was crap i downloaded Avast and it scans absolutly everything AVG scanned achives but Avast not only scanned archives but also scanned all files within ISO images, for that alone it sticks the boot in against AVG
Yeah, I've been using Avast! myself. It does seem to be a little more robust than AVG, but without the bloat of NAV.
AVG is just a standard shield, nothing more. Avast has several scanners build in. They are: P2P network scanner (for Limewire, Kazaa etc) Outlook Scanner Generic eMail scanner Web Shield scanner Instant message Standard shield The web shield is probably the most impressive of all. It can detect a virus on a webpage before it even touches your computer When I was a Windows user, Avast saved my ass at least 5 times. If you do get a virus, Avast rings an alarm (very loud ) and says in a feminine voice "Warning, there is a virus on your computer"!
well it is :swear:ing good, glad i took your advise, it won't ring a loud alarm on my pc cos i've disabled it in BIOS AC / 97, cos can't afford speakers
Are you guys using Avast Pro or standard? The pro version is even better.. I switched over to Bitdefender pro Plus. I have tested allot of different Anti Virus programs and I really like Bitdefender pro plus.. It has a built in firewall that works great along with a spam Gaurd.. AVG used to be pretty good, I don't know about there Pro version or there firewall... Does anyone know about there Firewall ? Is it any good ? I stay far away from Norton & McAfee, They are bloat ware and they are a virus in themself's...
I was using Avast Home Edition. I don't like the idea of having to pay for antivirus software. Not when i've just forked out a lot of money on an operating system that should have been secure in the first place. So i just moved to Linux in the end
I use Avast! Home. The web shield has saved me more times than I can count. I may at some point go pro but I am happy where I am for now. But, one question, what does Pro give me over Hom. About all I know about it is that I can use "Advanced Mode." If only I knew what exactly makes it advanced.
The advanced version is better, but it's features are geared towards businesses. From what I remember, all of the viruses in the virus chest are viewable. There is a function to view and print statistics and so forth. I think there's an extra shield too, but I can't remember what it's for. I almost bought the professional verson as a way of saying thank you for the free version. But as I said in the post above, I don't like the idea of buying anti-virus software.
