    Quick question:

Is it possible to use AOL Broadband without installing AOL's bloated software?

lol you're gonna LOVE this mega.....there's no such thing as AOL broadband. what they do is force you to keep their bloatware (AOL) and they install your local broadband dsl connection, over here it's Verizon DSL. basically AOL is the middleman between you and broadband. So in a way yes you may have aol broadband without aol...simply don't install aol, don't even bother with them, and call your local DSL provider. DSL is getting pretty cheap in the States..about 14usd..thats cheaper than most dialups including AOL!

Yes I think it is, but you might need to have your own modem / router, that's the only way I've seen it done before.

Well, i have the AOL software, but i dont have to have it, you just get a router, set it up, with your aol screen name and password, then install network drivers and then your online, withought AOL 9 software :)

AOL is preety cheap now, 8mbps broadband for £30 a month and unlimited, but blueyonder is the best :good:

wow i guess things are much different accross the globe, b/c over here AOL doesn't own its own broadband. Verizon pretty much owns the dsl and other companies borrow their lines, while various cable companies own territories within an area. I currently have aol b/c i used to have this account a long time ago but i downgraded it to only 5usd a month just to keep the screen names/email. They offered me "Aol broadband" over the phone, and basically they said its aol's service with whatever broadband is available in my area.

i think AOL rents there connection or somthing off NTL in the UK.
Well its kind of same in the UK, BT owns all the Telephone lines, so to use AOL and many other companys, you need a BT Phone Line.
