Hey, today i was playing Guild Wars Factions, and i seen some kind of black lines, or black traingles popping up, they looked like artifacts, they were getting very annoying, the thing is, my graphics card is not even overclockers, i was running Guild Wars fine at max settings, also i had this other problem, happened whilst playing GTA SA, i am playing, then the screen just freezes, black screen.... then nothing, computer never crashed coz i could still hear AOL radio playing, but no screen, so i had to restart, sometimes in GTA SA it went black then wierd white black lines from a split seconds, then black and then it was going ok again, also in Half life 2 i have noticed ALOT, of purble and black checkered flag kind of stuff on walls and stuff etc..., what do you think is wrong?, graphics card dieing?

Card is X800XT PE (ASUS AX800XT)

I am running the latest Omega drivers, overclocking disabled, also Monitoring doesent work :s


***Edit**** Ok, now i am getting VPU Recovers, i am beggining to think that the card is on it's way out, i really cant afford another card at the moment, anyone think i can get one under warranty from asus?

The purple and black checkered flags aren't necessarily a result of a dieing gfx card on hl2 but i can say that it is definatly a gfx problem. maybe you should try toning your gfx down for the time being until you have the money for a new gfx card. however, u mentioned you had a warranty - this will only be valid depending on how long u've had the gfx card for. in general, most electronic goods/hardware and software have a shelf life, this is usually anywhere between 1-3 years and upwards, so depending on the time you've had the gfx card and how much you've used it will determine your ability to get a new one on warranty. also note that it won't be a newer version or your card... heck, sometime they might not even give u a new one of your old one. they might ask for it in and try to fix it... although if they cant you will get a new one.
 
I found some proof of purchase in the form of an email from overclockers, if the card totally dies i will phone or Email ASUS.

I just turned my computer off, and then i went to turn it back on, it wouldent boot, even the graphics card fan did not slow down or anything, the first time it booted and frooze on the bios screen, then i turned it off and that when it did not boot up, so i decided to put a jumper over the 2 pins next to the CMOS battery to reset all setitngs, still wouldent boot up..., so i took the ram out, replaced it with the 512mb of ram from my old computer, same exact ram.. it booted!, so i put the ram that was in my main computer when it wasent booting into my old computer, and it booted ok :s, so i dunno what the mai computers problem was with the ram it had in before. I am hoping it is the ram that was causing the problems of the artifacts, but this ram problem was really wierd, infact i also had another problem when i used to use 2 sticks of 512mb in dual channel, if i put the first stick of ram in the first purple slot, then the other in the second, then booted it up, it wouldent boot, so i had to put one stick of ram in the second purple slot, then boot up with only one, shut down, then put the other stick of ram in the first purple slot and then dual channel 1gb would work :s, i suspect the motherboard is faulty, although it aint causing any performance issues, but sometimes when i hard reset or shut down and turn the it back on i get loads of blocks all over the screen and have to shut down to get rid of them, i aint really that bothered as long as it works ok which appears as it is, exept for the graphics card, its just the fact that i am wondering weather its me making the motherboard faulty, this is my second system build, my first one also had a faulty motherboard from the first time it was turned on, just kept turning off all the time mostly in games, so maybe i put it in the case wrong? bashed it or somthing?, because if i am responsible for making my second rig not work properly, then i feel i am incapable of building computers :\

Well, I have heard of similar problems such as yours and originally i would say RAM incompatibility but since you built the comp urself I am 90% sure you have compatible RAM modules. In addition, I would have also said mobo but u seem to have a good one. Nonetheless you might be right in that it is faulty - maybe you have knocked it like u said. However I don't think that this is the case.

What casing have you got for your comp? Also I had a thought that maybe your computer is over heating, this may be a problem. if this is the case you need to re-evaluate where your computer is placed, how many fans you currently have (other than that on the PSU, CPU or GFX) and so on - general things like that. however I seem reluctant to believe that it is overheating that is making your computer act crazy lol. Nonetheless you need to take that into consideration because that generally could be the issue.

thats all I can really say for your issue - but maybe some one else on here may have more additional advice.

Thanks :), you've been a greate help, ummm yea i dont think it will be overheating, i have 2 fans sucking in and 1 fan sucking out, i know its not the best cooling solution, my case is a jeantec Light Fusion, in the gallery i have some pics of it, the ram is compatible, i check everything before i bought it, i built the computer before christmas, anyway in the near future i am hoping to upgrade, prefrebly to somthing with core 2 duo and ATi X1XXX series graphics and ddr2 memory, next time i will take exxtra care of putting the motherboard in.

Thanks - i do what i can to help. yeah, just take a little more care next time although if u can build ur own pc i am sure u know how to handle the components.
Good luck on the next pc build any ways - i am goin to be doin the same - not just yet though, some time after dx 10 gfx cards are out.

cant wait for my new monitor - ordered it yest, shuld be here 2moz yay.
 
Me thinks you should do a review of your monitor and submit it to hardware forums, thats what i did with my Z5500 review :), it's nice to know that people are reading somthing you've made. Yea i will be waiting untill after DX10 comes out for a new upgrade, i keep forgetting about DX10 :p, i am planning on getting one of the Hig End DX10 cards that comes out, probs the R600 depending on it's price.

Well - I thought about getting one too, but according to my friend who read an article from some major company... Microsoft or nvidia or someone like that, he told me they stated that DX10 won't actually come into gaming play for about a year or 2 even after their release.
Apparently the highest end nvidia and ati's will actually be able to run DX10 games anyway... I'll try and post a link to this article if my friend can find it again.

Do you really think anyone'll read a review i write about the new monitor? If people will and I can get feedback I am more than happy to do it :D
 
Of course people will read your review :D, look in my sig, i linked to my Z5500 review, i have over 5000 hits on it, dunno how many are real people, i suspect quite alot, i think you will have to write the review, then send it to sniper or Big B on the forum via PM and they will readit and make minor adjustments to it etc.., and then will submit it into content, when i get around to it i will be doing a review of my monitor, if your unsure as to what ontent to put into the review just give Big B a shout via PM on the forum :), also when i did my review, sniper put up a discussion thread for mine in one of the forums too :).

Hmmm, i can see the most highest end ATi and Nvidia playing DX10 games, but not with the full features, as DX10 cards will be using new design etc.., some new shaders or somthing and ATi is ditching Pixel Pipelines i belive for somthing new, i thought next year sometime DX10 games were going to get relased :s, must of been put back.

Sweet! Sounds good - I'll do a review on my monitor after I have used it for a bout a week or so. But, speaking of my monitor it has just come through, and... well, I am not sure if this is a fault or anything but I have this tiny, tiny, tiny, minuscule red dot on the bottom center of the screen. I am going to post this problem under the displays section.

That tiny tiny red dot is a dead pixel, is it there all the time, coz if it is, then it is a dead pixel, but 1 red dot cant be that bad, but its unlucky that there is some on your monitor.

I think you should post the link in a new thread, it should make a good thread too :)
 
That's weird about the ram and all Willz, strange how popping it in and out made the difference. Perhaps the contacts had a little something on them. In my experience the PSU is a big player in artifacting but you're pretty well endowed on that front. That isn't to say that Hiper PSU's never go bad but I wouldn't expect them to go after less than a year. I take it these issues occur in all games and on even lower graphical settings right?
 
Well i have done a full restore of windows, new partition etc..., got omega drivers back in, so i aint sure if its still doing it, i am going to be playing Need For Speed Carbon demo soon, so if i get artifacts in Guild Wars, i will get them in that.


Were abouts is ur new thread, i dont see it anywere :s
 
If you have the same issue in NFS Carbon, I might say that your gfx card has something wrong with?... u've replied to my new thread already lol :P
 
Ah, that may be why :p, anyway i hope i dont have the same issue, i cant afford new parts at the moment, especially moving to PCI-E and core 2 duo :(, when i got other things to save up for like bk monolith subwoofer, guild wars, new hard drive, 26" samsung hd tv etc... so its going to be a looooong time, i estimated that i would be able to use my x800xt graphics card for about 3 years from when i bought it in september last year, and from what it looks like, it wont run games for that long, and i am going to have to stick with it :(.
 
Lol - know what you mean - in the same situation. Too many high end goods to buy and no money :( just spend wisely - i still need to get ram and gfx card and sound card lol and a new surround sound 7:1 speaker system lol :P
 
Rightyo, i took the graphics card out, took the fan off, got all the dust out, took the thermal paste off, put some new on, then got it all back together and then turn the computer on, i went to overclocking options in the ATi Omega control panel, put the 3d render program thing on, and maximized it to the largest i could, i then watched the temperatures, idle is about 41 degrees, and as soon as the 3d program was on, it instantly jumped to 65 degrees and went on at a steady increase to 85 degrees, at 85 the fan kicked in at 100% speed and then the temp went down to 80 degrees and maxxed out at 80 when fan was at 100%, was soon as i exited the program the fan went silent instantly, i also seen no artifacts, so hopefully i might of sorted it.
 
Good work dude, I wouldn't worry about 80 under load, my shutoff threshhold is something like 140 and this is what it was set as by default. I guess it pays to do a little cleaning house now and then.
 
Lol definitley - i can second that lol -i just cleaned out my pc and removed all the thick clumps of dust from the fans and now its all nice again :P
