Im planning to use Asterisk, an open source PBX, To allow a spare computer to act as a gateway between landlines and VOIP.

    Idear:

    1. Call My computer (over landline), enter pw, hang up
    2. computer calls me, i pick up and then dial the number i want (saves my credit :p)
    3. Computer Calls number via VOIP

This would allow me to call spain etc from anywhere using my mobile :p [GF is currently in spain :( ].

The First problem, reading the wikipedia article (link @ top), i read this:-

"the server must be fitted with special hardware. (An ordinary modem will not suffice.)"

Do i require this 'special' hardware, i would have thought i only needed a modem as im only using it as a gateway to bypass long distance tolls! :>

Many more questions will follow :p

Ps, my net connection is through a Router (and the spare comp has a ethernet socket) and i have a pci modem somewhere....
