Have any of you guys come across this problem: Mobo - CUV4X-C with 256 PC133 SDRAM (Bios Ver. 1007-C), PIII 650 - will boot properly if left unused for a few days. Suddenly, when used often enough, it boots into BIOS but you can't access it becoz it won't respond to keyboard inputs. Unplug it and leave it alone a day or two, and then you can access it again! I've tried replacing the keyboard, memory,CPU and Power supply, but it keeps coming back every few days. I tried flashing the BIOS directly using an EEPROM Programmer, but that didn't help either. My guess is it's a capacitor in the MAINBOARD, but I don't have a diagram. Would you happen to have any idea on this? Thanks for any help guys!
If a capacitor is going bad, you should see them bulging or have the electrolytic filling seeping out. Caps usually aren't parts that are on motherboard diagrams, so I highly doubt that'd help. The cylinders, particularly around the CPU socket would be what I'd look at. It could be that the mobo has gone bad and simply needs to be replaced. If the caps are bad for sure, check with BadCaps.net and see if they can help in that area.
Well, what I just did is I replaced all the capacitors in the area of the power supply connector and around the 370 Socket, and guess what -- the thing's working like new now. A bonus seems to be the on-board USB connectors that used to be very sensitive to what I connected to them. Now they can recognize anything I connect them to. Unlike before when I'd get unrecognized hardware errors! Thanks for the reply!
