is it possible to oc this processor from 200 X 9 (1.8ghz) to 223 X 9 (2 ghz) just using the stock hs/fan (processor in a box), using the paste it comes with as well??

or is it best to invest in a thermaltake hs/fan??

You could easily do beyond that, but I still recommend a better cooler and some Arctic Silver 5 just to be future concious. It's not necessary but you temps will be much more acceptable.

lol, are you saying that by overclocking an athlon 64 cpu, the temperatures are beter :o , dont they go higher like intel cpu's.

he's saying with a better cooling and better thermal compound he can achieve lower temps, even at higher clocks compared to normal clocks with the stock heatsink/fan

oh, i see, i cant afford to get one of those anymore, so i am just going to upgrade the graphics card to x850xt agp 8x.

Well that should come as a mightly huge upgrade then:) Your processor still has plenty of life and shouldn't hold you back too much.

The stock cooler is actually pretty good. Hell, my Winchester can do 260HTT and the Venice are supposed to be even better. Now, there's no guarantee on your OC, but as long as you have a motherboard that can support that kind of an HTT, 223MHz is fine. Any nForce3 250GB or nForce 4 motherboard ought to be able to do that easy.

cool thanks!

i think we are gonna have very similar systems big b :)

athlon 64 3000 venice
leadtek 6600gt
..

does your ram also handle 260 fsb 1:1???

heh.

Yeah, I'm doing 1:1 ratio with the Patriot +XBL. I've had it as high as 280, but my CPU won't budge past a 260HTT without errors.

As I said before great for the price but poor stock latency:(, plus you may have to wait a while befor it comes back in stock.
