Ok why are the drivers not video card specific anymore? It's weird. I go to ATI site to download latest drivers for my Radeon 8500 64mb, and the only things I get to choose from are which windows I have and on another page which of the several lines of cards: radeon, all-in-wonder, tv-tuner, fireGL, fireMV, RAGE, and some others. Back a few years ago I remember every specific model of card had its very own driver. Why not anymore? I don't get how that can even work like that? One driver for all the radeons out there, from 6500 or something all the way up to 9800 pro?

well the reason is to make it easier for "non tech" people to choose the correct drivers, the computer industry is so :swear:ing confusing to me but i'm still learning a lot

You basically choose the Radeon driver for your card. Because of this the driver download is usually a large file, but only the specific driver is installed onto the system for your card. nVidia also do this with their drivers.

Oh. So the download file contains all the possible radeon drivers in a single packaga, and then it determines which one it actually needs to install? Is that what u're saying?
