Remember my friend with the internet problem. His pc has gone worse he says he turned it onand waited for at least 4 hrs and windows (98) hadnt loaded. He's restart tons of times but still the same. He ressures me that theres nothing in his startup but anyway I'm goin round to back some of his mums inportant files up and to format it. I was wondering if there was a way to backup files in 98 without actually accessin windows.

How about taking the hard disk out of his PC, putting it on your PC, and then accessing the files from there?

Then you can safely format it, and hell, install the OS on his hard disk on your system.

If you can't access the files in 98, then you can't get them off, simple as.

Unless you can take the hard disk away and do it for him, there is no other way.
