Backing Up data from a 2.5" hdd

Hi Guys
I'm trying to back up data from a laptop hdd (xphome) onto my desktop pc (xppro) I can browse the 2.5" drive through my desktop pc (2.5" converter) but am unable to access the user account Documents and Settings
getting xp warning - " F:\Documents and Settings\Japer Desktop is not accessible
same error with My Documents etc all files within Japer user account
admin user account & other user accounts i'm able to access my docs, desktop etc
my laptop has died and need to back up things i didnt get the chance 2

any help appreciated

thanks for that but am using windows xp pro and have 2.5" drive as and extra hdd
have tried the sharing options but still no joy
 
If the account files you are trying to access from the old drive were password protected by windows user account password then you have to take ownership of the files, when you browse to a folder, let's say the documents and settings folder for the main account. Now it tell you you dont have access, because you did not log on through the copy of XP that protected it. If you are logged in on a admin account and you follow the directions on the link above it will give you control of everything in the user account you are trying to get at. Best I can figure is you missed a step, being you have pro you dont have to be in safe mode. right click it, select properties>security then follow the steps on the link above and it should open.
