Biostar M7NCD/Athlon 2600+ 2.13Ghz 333FSB Problems

I've just upgraded from a Athlon XP 2000+ 1.67GHz 266MHz FSB to a 2600+ 2.13Ghz 333FSB. So I went into the bios and changed the FSB speed from 133MHz to 166MHz. Right before is would start to load Windows XP it restarts itself. Then I tried setting it at 165MHz. It booted fine all the way up to the Windows login screen and then restarted again. I then took it down to 164...163...162...it will keep restarting, if I'm doing somthing that will use the CPU a lot, like playing Far Cry, it will end up restarting. If I take it back to the 133MHz I will have the same performance as my 2000+(It will even say I'm using an Athlon 2000+ under My Computer). What am I doing wrong? Do I need to update my bios? It should work fine on 166MHz FSB, right?:ill:
 
I think it might be overheating thats why it restarts! are you using the same fan that you did with the 2000+ what are the temps in bios?
 
It's not overheating. It runs at about 20 C; I got a new fan/heatsink good up to 3400+. I think I might of found the problem. On Biostar's webpage ( http://www.biostar.com.tw/support/cpu/socket_a.php3 ) it looks like the M7NCD w/ 2600+ only works with the 133MHz frequency (266MHz FSB) . Is that what Biostar is saying? It seems like if a 3200+ is able to run at 400MHz a 2600+ could do 333MHz... :sick:
 
In that case if you are limited to run at 266fsb, I would either try and get another processor - as their is no point having a 2ghz machine running at 1.8ghz or whatever it is..

Or as your cpu is well cooled you could overclock alittle (however not realy overclocking as its meant to run at 333 instead of 266) so.. i would suggest perhaps trying some faster memory?

Such as PC3200 (which runs at 200mhz fsb (400mhz)) then perhaps you could overclock slightly over the 333fsb and get the pc to recognise the cpu as a 2800+ or something..

However personally i would send your processor back, just say the processor seems to be in compatible with my "compatible" motherboard.. and get a 2400+ or a 2800+, or better get a Barton Mobile such as the 2500+ Barton Mobile, the core runs at 1.45V which allows for extreme overclocking.

I have seen people over clock upto 2700mhz from 1.8ghz with water cooling and good ram, however with air and some PC3200 you should easily be able to reach 2300mhz..

I finally just got a XP 3200+ (ordered a while ago, just got it :mad:). Works great in 400FSB. No restarts or anything. :good:
 
Hehe deliveries to some places can take forever. I ordered a Geforcefx 5900 and i had to wait 3 weeks to get it.
