'Lo all.. Wondering if you could shed some light on a few problems I've been having recently with my connection in general, and in particularly with torrent downloading. Over a period of the last 3-4 weeks, I have noticed SIGNIFICANT decline in my connection speeds. A few examples: 1) When downloading a file over a http connection I'll get a quick burst of good speed (typically 200-800Kb/s), sometimes (not often) this speed will continue until the file has downloaded. However, often the speed will stop and slow right down to 10-50Kb/s (or worse). 2) Sometimes, this problem seems to be very "pot luck", trying to load up a simple html page is like being back on a 36.6k dial-up connection!! Lastly.. 3) Most annoyingly, I am getting pathetic download speeds over Bit Torrent. Occasionally, I will get a burst of speed for a few seconds/minutes of anything up to 120Kb/s. I have capped my upload speed at 50K, and there seems to be no problem with uploading over bit torrent. As I said previously, this only started happening 3-4 weeks ago, and before that everything was working fine (typically 250+K download on BitTorrent). The following is my specs/stats: ISP : NTLWorld 3-10Mb Router : NetGear RP614v2 with 2 PC's connected (Both experiencing slow speeds) Browser : Normally Opera and Firefox Antivirus : BitDefender Plus 9 -I have enabled port forwarding over the required ports (6881-6999?) on my router, and since it was working correctly in the past, there should be no problem with that. -The most recent thing I installed, which also corresponds to the time the problem is BitDefender 9. However, since disabling it, the problem remains. -I have tried ringing NTL customer support and they discovered that they had my cable modem on the wrong router for my connection. They fixed that, and (perhaps coincidence???) all was well for a period of 24/36 hours, however, I'm back to the crappy speeds I've been experiencing!! Was hoping someone could shed some light on the situation. Not being able to download anything significant in size is REALLY starting to annoy me!! Any help much appreciated.
A possible explanation for slow torrent downloads is the number of seeds/peers that you are connected to is limited. As for a slow http download at the very end of the download, I have no explanation, It's probably server-side if you were downloading it fast for 90% of the time, and then slow during the last 10%.
