Hello peeps. A friend of mine has asked me for help solved some spy/adware problems but I am stuck.

I looked at his pc and found he does not have any firewall or antivirus program running. I installed a firewall and ran spybot and deleted all the problems I came across, however I still cannot fix one thing.

He had a silly warning on his desktop background telling him he was at risk from spyware etc which I thought would go when I ran spybot. Now it is just white.
When the pc starts up it loads his chosen background but then gets replaced by this white screen as though its covering the original desktop, you can still see all of the icons. When I looked at the properties by right clicking on the desktop, I didnt get the usual dektop dialogue box, it looked more like the one that you get if you right click on a web page and gave the address as c:/windows.wrnhpt.exe (or along those lines). Can anyone suggest anything?

could you give us the exact address please? it could be a virus/spyware or something.

sounds like the active desktop is on?

right click on desktop > properties > desktop > customize desktop > web

then untick the My current homepage option.

Ah that sounds like it will do the job actually. I'm not at the pc right now so I'll get him to try that and if it doesn't work I'll give you the exact address and get back to you. Thank you!
