    Hello,
Can any member able to help, please.

A strange request to ask, where can a Bootup disk be obtained from to suit a Zenith Z316/sx computer or if possible a way to boot the computer. Any help is most appreciated.

What sort of computer is it? 286? 386? Does it have a harddrive? Is it an os/2 system?

EDIT: Ok, I think you might have a typo in your message.
    Zenith 386 sx.
Microsoft os/2 1.3 seems to be ok on that system. Not sure about Windows 3. Finding either will be tough!

Post back with as much info as possible about the system and its condition. Does it have an os which doesnt boot or is it a blank system in need of an os?

Many thanks for interest shown and help to my posting.
This computer belongs to a friend who for some reason refuses to dump it and buy a newer model.
It appears that the operating system is MS-DOS!
According to him, at each try to boot up, screen requests that boot up disk be inserted into floppy drive.

Computer detailed correctly: Zenith Z 316/SX.

    Zeus,
Friend informs me that O/S is DOS 6.2 with a Conner Hard Disk drive.
Failure of computer was due to battery failure, new battery fitted but now requests a boot up disc or floppy 3.5".
It could be BIOS error not sure!

Sounds like the MBR needs to be rewritten.

Do you know which version of dos? Im guessing a later version (5 or 6)

I find old pcs like this very appealing! One day i'll have a collection! I like the old cpus too. The old intels are going up in price now too. A couple of years ago 4004 used to be £5 on ebay, now they are about £100-£200. The 186 version of what your friend has can go for up to a grand... depending on which version.

A complete Zenith 386 isn't worth much at the moment... maybe £50 but that will change.

Being dos 6 makes it easier.

Ive never installed or used dos so I cant tell you what to do from experience. It should be quite straight forward though....

Have a read of this MS article
