Bought a new 40GB hard disk.. please help!!!

    hi
    just bought a Seagate barracuda 40 gb Hd for my Pentium 2 machine..
    it detects at the Boot up but later does not detect at all..

    my machine is a pentium 2 300 MHz... its a viglen genie2 machine

    please help me with this..

    do i need a special cable or somethin??

    I assume this is a second HD? if so you need to format the drive

    use format x:

    where x = the drive letter

    its doesnt work.. cause it detects the Hard Disk in the BIOS but when i boot The system it gives me a Message sayin "No hard Disk Found" i dont know how to go about this.. please Help..


    by the way i did format the HD

    check the jumpers on the back of the drive if its connected to an ide port on the same lead as another drive then the second drive needs to be set to slave and the other to master it the only one it need to be set to master. If it your second drive connected to its own ide port then it need to be set to master. and make sure you have it in the right ide port m8 if it the only hdd is should be ide 1 this should be wrote on your mainboard close to your ide ports. also check you av a 80 pin conducter lead not a 40 pin conducter ide lead you can check this by counting the number of wires of the ribbon cable m8. hope this helps Dave :good:
