You'll get differing opinions on this matter, and in the end its entirely up to you.

Personally I love Firefox, it just seems to do everything i need it to do while being very customisable with extensions and themes available from the Mozilla website. Also, it is updated often. Most of all its free, free as in free beer and free as in free speech. Open source.

Another good browser is Opera, while its not open source, it is free to use and very fast. I prefer the firefox interface, but its still very solid and light on resources. Try both and see which one you prefer.

As for email, Mozilla also offer a partner application to Firefox called Thunderbird which is an email/news client. On linux, Evolution email is also a good option although I haven't tried it.

You should consider getting a more recent distro than SUSE 9.3 but if it works for you then fine. :). Make sure you keep it updated.

    Web Browsers

    • Opera - The best browser on any platform (in my opinion ;) )
    • Firefox - Good open source browser
    • Mozilla Suite - Full browser suite including email. Outclassed by Firefox
    • Netscape 7.2 - Proprietory version of the Mozilla suite. Outdated now
    • Konqueror - KDE's file manager cum web browser. Good if a little slow
    • Epiphany - GNOME web browser, crap
    • Dillo - lightweight browser for older machines. It's crap
    • Lynx - Text based browser for use in terminal.

    Email

    • Kontact - KDE email client. Very good, I use it
    • Evolution - Another very good email client
    • Opera Email Client - Could use more work but good integration with browser
    • Mozilla Suite - Outdated now
    • Netscape 7.2 - Outdated now
    • Sylpheed - Lightweigh email client. Very good, I use it on older computers

If you are usin KDE you already have a good browser built in - Konquerer.
I am pretty sure (and I am probaby pretty wrong...) that it can do most of what FF can do. However, I am not sure about extensions and/or plugins....

Konqueror is good for most things and is probably the best file manager I have ever used. I am always switching between that, Opera and Firefox because each has their strengths and weaknesses.

Firefox has good integration and is the most compatible browser for the Linux platform. Whereas Opera is faster and sleeker. Konqueror fits in somewhere inbetween :)
