I'm having some trouble with my desktop pc when it comes to browsing the internet. its either very very slow or just doesnt load up any web page i visit.
i can log into AIM n MSN without a problem but i just cannot seem to browse the internet. when i open up firefox, google.com loads up, i can search for something or i can type in the website im trying to go to but thats basicly it. once that single operation is done nothing else seems to wanna load up. and most of the time only half the page loads up then nothing after wards. I've tried to reinstall firefox but nothing. IE has the same issues but sometimes it works just a little bit longer then firefox does then it stops and tomorrow everything will work just fine... this just recently started it did it on sunday and then monday it worked completely and utterly fine without any problem then last nite it started acting up again.

im running windows XP at home and the latest firefox and IE software

it's probably a local problem, first try clearing your cache, then try clearing your local DNS cache by typing
    Code:
    ipconfig /flushdns
    into the command prompt

BTW: primarily the DNS converts a readable website name (FQDN) like [noparse]microsoft.com[/noparse]

Edit: If you run ipconfig /displaydns entries in the host file will still be there
