My burner stopped recognizing blank DVD's suddenly today. It's a dual format double layer burner about 3 months old. I took my cpu into Best Buy and they said it could be because of some adware cookies. They wanted $70 to look at it and $150 to clean up these files. Is this something that a good spyware software could detect and delete or is there another issue? Has anyone else ran into this situation?

    Bad advice there Karanislove!
The first thing you should look at is:
Did you change any software or hardware configurations?
Does the drive recognise non-blank discs?
    Did you upgrade the firmware?
Is the media you are using officially supported by the drive?
Don't just re-install Windows cause it doesn't read blanks.
    Troubleshoot first!

[google]SpyBot[/google] is a pretty good adware/spyware detection and removal tool.

See what that does for ya.

It's very unlikely that spyware would cause a DVD-ROM to cease functioning. At worst, spyware will steal your bank details! But it won't cause any problems with your hardware.

Answer Pelvis_3's questions before we can troubleshoot further

Oh, and as Karanislove suggested, have a read of my security guide :)
