I cannot install an Ethernet Switch on my “XP home OS” computer. I have tried two different ones: an old Edimax ES-3105P and a new Linksys SE1500. Plug and Play recognizes both as new hardware, but the new hardware wizard says that neither one can be installed, giving this message for both: “The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software.” I have searched the Internet for several hours and cannot find a driver or software for the Edimax. The Linksys SE1500 did not come with any software or drivers to install. And I could not find any for it on the Internet, which leads me to believe that neither one needs drivers or software. If this is the case why is XP asking for software? If it’s not the case, what am I doing wrong? The old Edimax switch has worked on this computer before without problems, but I had to rebuild it and now I have this problem.
