I am running windows 2000. I have a Lite On cd/dvd rom/burner which I have been trying to use to burn music off of iTunes. When I try to burn a disc it acts normal, says 'initializing' and then cancells my disc burn. A pop up window comes up that says "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occoured [4000]" Then my saftely remove hardware device manager comes up and says that I have unpluged or ejected a device while it was in use and it lists my lite on drive as that piece of hardware. To check if this wasnt just iTunes, I tried burning a word doc using Nero and it said the brun was sucessful. It, however, burned no info to the disc. I have checked device manager and it said this drive is working properly. The drive can read cds and DVDs fine, everything is normal except I cannot burn anything. My initial guess is that the burneris going bad, but I want another opinion before I buy another drive, if it can be avoided.

It does sound like a bad burner! try using it on another computer to see if it works o rnot. Also it could very well be the discs so try different media but thats unlikely.

Is that the exact error message you get?
