When I enabled the overclocking option I thought I could just go and oc my card, but everytime I try to it says I have to test the new settings, and they always fail! I have aftermarket cooling from Zalman on my card and the card itself is a 6800GT by XFX and all is powered by a 480W PSU I read that it should be no problem to make it run at the speed of an 6800Ultra, but why doesn't it work everytime I test the new settings?? Please help me with this. Thanks
I don't know what specific 480W unit you have, but I'll just link to something I typed up about the subject. Assuming you're PSU is up to task, check that the cooling unit is securely mounted first thing. Second, try overclocking in 5-10MHz increments on the RAM and GPU speeds. Overclocking is really about luck, not a guarantee. Just because joeblow hits a certain speed doesn't mean you will. A good possibility? Sure, depending on how many people are achieving a certain OC, but not a guarantee. It's a long shot, but there could be something in the drivers, so you might try a different set to see if the situation changes.
My psu is fine, it's a thermaltlake 450W actually not a 480W, I just can't seem to adjust the frequencies in my settings panel, I tried both Nvidia and RivaTuner to up my frequencies. I can adjust the sliders but when I have to test the new frequencies all it says is "The test didn't run on selected frquencies, lower your settings and try again" (Translated from dutch) My card is from XFX, is it the brand, poor to oc? Do I have to adjust the agp voltage in my bios? It's currently on 1,5 and I can set it to 1,6. Help
