cd-rw cd rom

    My operating system is win 98.My cd rom is made by LG electronics.Everytime I try to burn a cd the error message hardware error comes up.It also will not read cds.I have tried to clean the drive.I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drive.What else can i do?

    Try removing the IDE cable thats connected to the drive, (the ribbon cable from your motherboard to your CDROM) and giving the IDE Pins a clean, also make sure there are no cuts or damages in the IDE cable itself, as if there are your drive will not work properly.

    Also remove the power cable from the drive and replug it in

    download this: http://swg-planet.com/aida32ee_393.zip and install it, its a system information tool that is free to use, and it will provide you with detailed information on your computer specification, view your Drive summary (or optical drives) then take a screen shot and post it here, if you can't do that just post back with the exact LG model and make of the drive.

    Also make sure Windows is upto date and so is Office Update

    Try installing the firmware for the drive.

    The manufacturer is LG the device type is CD-RW the speed is 12x/8x/32x the model id is LG CD-RW CED-8120B.I tried everything you told me to do.Nothing worked.Is there anything else i can do?Thank you
